Car Free Vancouver Day takes place Sunday, June 17th on Commercial Drive and Main Street and in Kitsilano and the West End (Denman Street). Kitsilano will also be holding car free block parties on Saturday, June 16th.
This fun event is 100% volunteer organized and run and can’t be done without your help. The major street festivals still need many volunteers and you can sign up for shifts as short as a few hours. Please sign up today as a volunteer and ask friends or family to join you. You’ll meet great people and will have an opportunity to contribute to supporting an event that fills our streets with people instead of cars. And we all know that fewer cars = more community!
If you have an interest in facilitating workshops or conversations at one of the festival sites about how we can build more community and reduce car dependency in neighbourhoods please email me for information about how you can get in touch with the coordinator for this work.
If you’re not able to volunteer, Car Free Vancouver Day also accepts donations to support the festival. The Car Free Vancouver Society doesn’t accept corporate sponsorships, has no banner sponsors and isn’t interested in being an advertising opportunity for anyone. The festival is all about taking over the streets and reclaiming them for neighbourhoods. If you like this, please make a donation to support Car Free Vancouver Day.
All of us who belong to the Car Free Vancouver Society thank you for your support and contributions. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, June 16th in Kits and on Sunday, June 17th on the Drive and Main Street, and in the West End and Kits. Check all of the festival web pages for previews of what you can expect to find/see/do at the four festivals!
Finally, please remember that Car Free Vancouver Day is a pedestrian/bike/skateboard/unicycle/transit-friendly festival. Support the spirit and purpose of the day by not driving to any of the festival sites. See you there!
